World Car Free day 2026

To mark World Car Free Day on 22 September, we joined forces with Brent Council and local partners to fill Priory Park Road with an afternoon of family-friendly activities. The street came alive as families and residents made full use of our new safe public space, enjoying table tennis, face painting, juice making and interactive games, alongside stalls and support from OK Club, Brent Health Matters, Asthma + Lung UK, and Brent Start.

The street outside our school gates was recently turned into a pedestrianised zone following successful campaigning by our school and local residents and organisations. Traffic and idling engines have now been replaced with bicycle parking, seating, plant pots and an open space for children to play.

Headteacher Helen Khinich said: "Having this car-free space over the past few weeks has made school drop off and pick up so much safer and calmer for our pupils. Children now have a safe area to play while waiting for the school gates to open. Celebrating World Car Free Day together on Priory Park Road was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the clean, open street and reflect on what our community has achieved."

The afternoon demonstrated the lasting impact of community action. What was once a busy road now serves as a shining example of how reclaiming streets for people can create a healthier, safer and more connected neighbourhood for everyone.
