Skipping with Miquita Oliver

We were delighted to welcome Miquita Oliver for a visit, where she shared her passion for skipping with our pupils.

During an exciting whole-school assembly, Miquita spoke about how skipping played a key role in her childhood, helping her stay active and focused. With her motivational message, she encouraged our pupils to embrace skipping as a way to build confidence, coordination and energy. She described a simple rope as a “portal to the life that you want, no matter who you are and where you come from.”

Using the mantra “bounce, bounce, bounce”, she taught our pupils a rhythm to help them skip for longer periods while managing their energy and stamina. The children eagerly put her techniques into practice the playground, skipping solo and in groups.

The enthusiasm spread quickly as teachers, school staff, and even the Headteacher joined in! It was truly a joyful experience for the whole school community. Impressed by the pupils’ enthusiasm and talent, Miquita generously donated several of her own skipping ropes and encouraged the children to continue their skipping journeys.

Headteacher Helen Khinich expressed her gratitude, saying: “Miquita was so patient and kind with the children and brought positive energy and inspiration to the whole school. We are very grateful for a fabulous morning!”

One pupil captured the excitement of the day perfectly: "Skipping has always been my passion. It makes me calm and relaxed, and when I was skipping with my purple rope, it felt like I was in a big purple bubble.”

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Miquita Oliver and her team for the inspiring visit. It reminded everyone that skipping is not just a sport but also a way to build confidence, rhythm and joy.
