History
We believe a high-quality history education will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past as well as that of the wider world. Our history curriculum is designed to provide all learners with the knowledge, cultural capital and enquiry skills needed to question, recall and understand historical events. We aim to teach them about the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups in addition to their own identity.
History is the springboard for topics and cross-curricular learning as part of our curriculum offer. To bring aspects of history to life, we try to link visits and or workshops to the history units of work.
History is taught and planned through whole-class teaching and continuous provision. Each half-term, key historical events, people and memorable dates are also identified and taught as part of class assemblies across the school.
In Years 1-6, when the overarching topic relates to a history unit of work, it is taught once per week. In the Early Years Foundation Stage, History is integrated into their curriculum and the half-termly topics.
